Accused mega spammer arrested
A man responsible for sending spam to almost 30 million people has turned himself in.
The Facebook spammer, US citizen Sanford Wallace, allegedly developed a program that lured social network users to submit their account details. Prosecutors say his program then posted messages on other users' walls, suggesting they visit a website where they would submit their own account details.
The accounts would also be directed towards an affiliated website which would make Wallace "substantial" earnings.
He has been released on £61,000 bail (US $100,000).
Sanford's program is accused to have compromised around 500,000 accounts between November 2008 and March 2009.
On The Road Computing recommends you stay clear of Facebook scams by being very careful what you click on, and be especially careful of anything which requires you to enter your account details if you're already logged in!
