Chrome Overtakes Firefox
Google Chrome has landed a blow in the ongoing internet browser wars, with the latest statistics indicating it now has a larger market share than Mozilla Firefox.
Chrome's share is up to 25.69%, while Firefox has dropped slightly to 25.23%. Both browsers still remain some way behind Microsoft's default browser Internet Explorer, which is on 40.63%.
The results come from a recent report by StatCounter, one of the world's leading Internet analysis firms, which recorded its first results in 2008. In the three years which have followed, Firefox had enjoyed an all-time high of 32.21%, but the introduction of Chrome has seen its share drop over time, and it has lost over 20% of its share over the past year.
Chrome's market share has grownby 10.84 points over the same time period. The decline of Internet Explorer has been steady in the face of its relatively new competition, and StatCounter projects that at the current rate, Chrome enjoy as large a share by the end of next year.
Internet Explorer's slide has been partially arrested, however, by Microsoft's campaign of internet adverts.
Other analysis of the market comes from NetApplications, whose results show Firefox ahead of Chrome with 22.1% to 18.2%. In NetApplications results, Internet Explorer dominates with 52.6%.
