Futuremark test shows Chrome still fastest
Futuremark, one of the world's leading PC software performance testing firms, has announced that Google Chrome is still the fastest browser on the market.
Their updated browser performance analysing software, Peacekeeper, has evaluated the latest HTML5 standards and can now be supported by tablets and smartphones, as well as PCs.
The results of the tests, which were carried out on a PC, indicated that Chrome 15 was the fastest browser, followed by Opera and Internet Explorer 8.
The lack of Firefox on the list of speed leaders adds to Mozilla's problems, which we reported on last week.
Apple's browser, Safari, does not perform well on PCs but on the iPad 2 its speed is comparable with Chrome on other platforms. Meanwhile, other tests were undertaken using a Macbook Pro, which put Chrome ahead of Opera, Firefox and Safari.
TomsHardware explained that the latest version of the Peacekeeper test takes around 5 minutes and includes rendering, WebGL testing, canvas and web worker tests, DOM operations tests, parsing tests and HTML5 video testing.
