Google to Launch Operating System!
Google has announced that it is to launch a competitor to Windows, called Google Chrome OS (its web browser is called Google Chrome) and that it will be on sale as early as mid 2010 for low end netbooks. The OS will then become available for fully featured computers too.Google has stated the aims of the new OS are to be Speed, Reliability, Security and simplicity. "We are completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work," said Google.
There are some lofty and admirable aims too, "We're designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds," - A few seconds to boot up and be online? That would be mighty impressive, though we'll wait until we see it to believe it.
Either way you look at it, this is great news for consumers, more competition will usually result in better products from all parties as well as lower prices for those products. Google has a track record of producing very good software so this could get very interesting for Microsoft.
