Keep Your Laptop Cool This Summer

While we've all been enjoying the sunny weather this summer, there is a downside to the warmer climate for the laptop owner. Many of our customers have called us in the last couple of weeks and told us their machines were switching off spontaneously. This is very likely to do with the increase in temperature making the laptops overheat. On The Road Computing has a few helpful hints to stop your laptop from overheating this summer.

• Clean the air vents. Most laptops have intake vents near the front of the case, and exhaust vents around the back. Dust and debris can block these vents, impeding airflow and forcing the laptop to overheat. We suggest a quick blast of compressed air for this job.
• Don't put the laptop directly on your lap. Any soft surface impedes airflow within a laptop, so you need to have your laptop on a smooth, hard surface in order to ensure this doesn't happen.
• If you don't want to use a desk, you can buy a laptop pad. This will allow you to keep your laptop close to you but avoid overheating.
• Keep an eye on what programs you're running. If you're asking a lot of your laptop, it can require a considerable amount of power to keep everything going. Too much strain on the machine can result in overheating. Just make sure you need all the programs you have open.
