Windows 7 to 8 switch will be easy
Microsoft have revealed that the switchover from Windows 7 to new operating system Windows 8 will be simple. At the Worldwide Partner Conference 2011, COO Kevin Turner allayed fears that the switch from 7 up to 8 would cause compatibility problems.
“The gateway to get to Windows 8 is Windows 7, and we will have backward compatibility with Windows 7 embedded into Windows 8," said Turner. "That's something that we're very committed to. But that's a really important first pillar.”
The interface of Windows 8 will be almost entirely new, an original tile-based design compared with the current Windows 7 layout, but underneath the surface the operating system will closely resemble the last one.
The CFO of Windows & Windows Live, Tami Reller, had previously revealed that the hardware requirements might even be lower than that for Windows 7, prompting hopes that Windows 8 will be faster than its predecessor.
“For our business customers, your customers, this is an important element," said Reller."The ability of Windows 8 to run on Windows 7 devices ensures the hardware investments [being made] will be able to take advantage of Windows 8 in the future. And there's beautiful hardware in the market today."
